The Póvoa de Varzim Lifeguard Station assisted four crew members aboard a sailboat that was in difficulty at the entrance to the port of Vila do Conde on Wednesday. The vessel, which was about half a nautical mile (approximately 900 meters) from the port entrance, was towed.
"The alert was given by the sailboat's own skipper, at 4:35 pm", guaranteed the National Maritime Authority in a note published on Facebook. The crew members of the Póvoa de Varzim Lifeguard Station were immediately mobilized.
Once on site, the rescue services verified that "the four crew members on board were physically well, without the need for medical assistance" and that the vessel had a broken rudder. The sailboat ended up being towed.
"The owner was notified and will only be able to sail again after being inspected, in order to ensure normal sailing conditions", also indicated the National Maritime Authority.
