Elderly man arrested in Nazaré after assaulting and insulting two police officers

A 70-year-old man was arrested in flagrante delicto by the Public Security Police (PSP) on May 5, for the crime of resisting and coercing an official, after having assaulted, threatened and insulted two officers in Nazaré.
In a statement, this Tuesday, the PSP's Leiria District Command reported that everything happened last Sunday, at 8:55 pm, when a police team from the Nazaré Police Station went to "an occurrence of disorder between several individuals in a nightlife establishment, in the center of the village".
"During the police intervention, a completely altered man immediately began to insult them, threaten them with death and even managed to carry out aggressions, kicking, hitting one in the neck and face and another in the area of the right hand and ring finger, causing them minor injuries", it reads.
The man had to be "handcuffed with evident use of physical force and, consequently, handcuffed and detained". The police had to receive "further treatment".
According to the PSP, during his transport to the local police station, the suspect "repeatedly kicked one of the doors and glass of the police vehicle without, however, causing significant damage".
"Inside the police facilities, the man in question always kept the threats on the police, trying new aggressions, even though he was handcuffed, throwing himself against them", he adds.
The suspect also expressed "refusal to appear before the judicial authority on the date and time determined" and "returned to the detention rooms, remaining detained until yesterday afternoon". Presented to the judicial authority, "he was released, following the process its normal investigation procedures".
