The National Republican Guard (GNR), through the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA), rescued a tawny owl (Strix aluco) in the municipality of Covilhã on Monday.

In a statement, this Tuesday, the GNR explains that, during a patrol action, the military "were alerted by a local that the animal was wandering in the town of Covilhã" and that it was "apparently" weakened.

"The military went to the scene, where they located and collected the specimen", adds the note.

The bird was transported and delivered to the Wildlife Recovery Center (CERAS) in Castelo Branco, "for monitoring its health, recovery and subsequent release into its natural habitat".
