The Nazaré Lifeguard Station, in the district of Leiria, assisted two crew members of a sailboat off the coast of Pedrógão beach.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning, involving "two crew members who were in difficulty aboard a sailboat, due to an engine failure, about five nautical miles (approximately nine kilometers) off the coast of Pedrógão beach", according to a statement from the National Maritime Authority (AMN).

The alert was received at 10:00 am and upon arrival at the scene "it was found that the two crew members, approximately 60 years old and of French nationality, were physically well, without the need for medical assistance, and that the sailboat had an engine failure".

The vessel was then transported by sail to the entrance of the port of Nazaré. The crew of the Lifeguard Station towed it, "for safety reasons for the crew and for navigation", into the port.

"The owner was notified and will only be able to sail again after being inspected, in order to ensure normal navigability conditions. The local command of the Nazaré Maritime Police took charge of the incident", concludes the note.
