Portugal recommends a mammogram every two years from age 50. Countries like the United States have 'backed down' and recently stated that the first exam of this type should be done at age 40.

The Directorate-General of Health (DGS) issued a warning on Tuesday for the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
"Breast cancer mostly affects women over 50, but it can affect both sexes and younger age groups", officials said in a post shared on social network X (formerly Twitter).
"Prevention and early diagnosis are essential to ensure a 90% cure rate! Get screened!", they concluded in the post.
On its website, the DGS provides information about screenings for various cancers, including breast cancer. The information provided clarifies some questions, indicating that a mammogram should be performed every two years from the age of 50 for prevention.
It should be noted that this age was generally accepted in most countries - and still is - but recently the United States 'went back' ten years and recommends that the first mammogram for prevention be done at age 40.
