After a first edition in 2021, the Café Central association returns with the project to "celebrate the community, because it is believed that cities are the people who inhabit them", one of the organisers, Ricardo Graça, told Lusa.
"'Tipo Passe' is a tribute to the city, first, and to photographers and the art of portraiture", stressed the photojournalist. On Wednesday, between 11 am and 1 pm, a dozen photographers linked to Leiria will be in mini studios to portray anyone who wants to, in 'à la minute' mode. "The photographs are in black and white, there is a black cloth, there will be a bench - but if you want you can also do it vertically - and there will be 12 photographers with different photography styles", anticipated Ricardo Graça. Then, "there will be the classic interaction between photographer and subject", which "is an adventure", because "the portrait is always a dance between the subject and the photographer. We hope they turn out well and that people have fun". "Among the invited photographers, there are [winners of] World Press [Photo] awards, Gazeta [de Fotografia] awards, we have photographers who are rock stars, we have fashion people, we have more conceptual people", described the organiser. Participating in this edition of 'Tipo Passe' are photographers Ana Veloso, Carla de Sousa, Carolina Miguel, Enric Vives-Rubio, Joaquim Dâmaso, Kid Richards, Maria Kowalski, Né Themudo, Nuno André Ferreira, Rita Carmo, Ricardo Graça and Sal Nunkachov. "We came in 'coming out of the pandemic' mode and it was a success. This year we grew from eight to 12 photographers and we hope it will be better - and deliver a thousand photographs and photograph 500 people. At a time when millions of photographs are produced daily, lots of 'selfies', lots of low-quality photography, we are going to celebrate photography and we are going to try to give it the dignity it deserves". From Leiria, the Café Central association aims to take the 'Tipo Passe' project to other cities. "It is a project that works in any city, where we would call photographers from that region, and we would celebrate that city. It is a portrait, this can be done everywhere and we believe it will happen".
