Evangelista admits "not being fooled" by FC Porto's negative sequence

Famalicão’s coach assured today that the team is "not fooled" by FC Porto’s recent negative results and expects difficulties in the match with the ‘dragons’ this Saturday, on round 29 of the First Football League.

"It's important not to be fooled by what FC Porto did in the last few games [two consecutive defeats in the championship], but rather by what this opponent has been doing very well, namely having won 5-0 against Benfica. Only then can we be competitive in a game of great difficulty," said Armando Evangelista, in the preview of the match, at the Estádio do Dragão.

The coach has been in command of the minhotos for 15 days, having achieved two consecutive victories in this period, or rather the 'blue and whites' who come from two consecutive defeats, something that Evangelista does not believe will make the task easier for his team.

"The last results of FC Porto certainly left the team on high alert and this can make Famalicão's task more difficult, even if our confidence levels are increasing due to the victories achieved," he stressed.

The Famalicense team managed, for the first time this season, two consecutive successes in the I League [triumphs over Gil Vicente and Vizela] and Armando Evangelista wants to "try to extend this sequence".

"It's a game of very high difficulty, and being away will make our task even more complicated. We have to set realistic goals, but it doesn't seem to me that it's impossible to get a good result at Dragão," he added.

The coach also considered it very premature to say that this Famalicão already has his personal touch, but acknowledged that the athletes are assimilating the new ideas.

"We are in a well-conducted process, with the ideas being well assimilated and with results. More than focusing on the opponent, we prepared our process and we are not going to deviate from that," he guaranteed.

After this game, on Saturday, with FC Porto, Famalicão will face Sporting on Tuesday, in a match in arrears from the 20th round of the championship, but Armando Evangelista only guaranteed focus on this clash with the Portistas.

"We have to think one game at a time. At the moment the preparation is for FC Porto and after that we will think about Sporting. There will be adjustments to be made, as we have a short space of time, and we need to be careful," he said.

Asked if these two clashes are an opportunity for Famalicão to prove that it had arguments to fight for a qualification for the European competitions, as was assumed by the previous coach João Pedro Sousa, the new coach was more pragmatic.

"I've been at the club for 15 days and I wasn't the one who set those goals. I recognize that the size and growth of Famalicão can approach, in terms of competitiveness, the top clubs, but now the important thing is to validate the two previous victories with good performances and growth," he concluded.

For this challenge at the Estádio do Dragão, the minhotos cannot count on the suspended Riccieli and Chiquinho.

Famalicão, eighth classified with 34 points, travels this Saturday to the Estádio do Dragão to face FC Porto, third with 58, in a match scheduled for 6 pm, which will be refereed by Gustavo Correia, from the Porto association.
