Attention, Benfica and FC Porto: Atlético will go to the Club World Cup, Barça won't
The elimination of the Catalans at the feet of Paris SG dictated the fate of the second Spanish wave.

On Tuesday, Benfica and FC Porto learned that Atlético de Madrid will also be in the next Club World Cup, as a result of Barcelona's elimination in the Champions League 'quarterfinals', against Paris SG (1-4, 4-6 on aggregate).
The Catalans already knew that, if they were eliminated by the Parisians, they would give the second Spanish berth to Atlético de Madrid, regardless of the outcome of the colchoneros in Dortmund, where they were even eliminated from the race by Borussia (4-2, 5-4 on aggregate). If both Spanish teams went through, the winner of the 'semis' with a guaranteed place in the final would be the team to advance to the Club World Cup.
Among those qualified from Europe, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern, Paris SG, Inter, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund were guaranteed in the next edition, with a new format, with the last European berth now to be known, in a total of 12, which will be the winner of the Champions League.
As far as other continents are concerned, Asia (AFC) will have four teams, as will Africa (CAF) and teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). In turn, South America (CONMEBOL) will have six teams, leaving one place for teams from Oceania. The last of the 32 berths will be awarded to a club from the host country, the United States.
Among other qualified teams are Al Hilal (of Jorge Jesus), Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Urawa Red Diamonds, Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Club Léon, Auckland, Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense, in a competition in which the 32 qualified clubs already know that they will be divided into eight groups of four teams, between June 15 and July 13, 2025.
