Bayer breaks Benfica's mythical record and leaves Xabi Alonso speechless
German formation raised to 49 consecutive games without losing and surpassed the historical mark of the eagles that had been in force since 1965.

Bayer Leverkusen secured a place in the Europa League final on Thursday night, while also extending their unbeaten run to 49 games in all competitions, breaking the historic record held by Benfica since 1965.
According to Mister Chip, a Spanish journalist specializing in statistical data, Leverkusen has now become the first team to achieve a total of 49 games without a defeat since European competitions began, including national and international competitions.
The previous record belonged to Benfica, which had Eusébio and company, who had managed to remain undefeated between December 1963 and February 1965.

Xabi Alonso, in a press conference, commented on the achievement, also due to the several draws achieved in stoppage time, like yesterday's, and confessed to being "speechless".
"It's hard to explain this type of successive situation. I'm once again speechless because we have the ability to score and turn things around, showing this character", said the Spanish coach.
