Corporate and personal insolvencies rise for second quarter
Insolvencies of individuals and companies have maintained a growing trend for two quarters, registering a total of 2,339 insolvency proceedings decreed in the first instance courts in the first three months of the year.

According to statistical data released today by the Directorate-General for Justice Policy (DGPJ), in the first quarter of 2024 there were 1,803 bankruptcies declared to individuals, more than the 1,721 in the last quarter of 2023 and the 1,551 in the third quarter of last year.
Compared to the same quarter, there was a decrease, since in the first three quarters of 2023 there were 1,988 bankruptcies of individuals decreed.
As for companies, in the first quarter of this year the courts decreed 533 bankruptcies, more than the 484 in the previous quarter and the 478 in the third quarter of 2023.
The comparison with the same quarter also points to an increase, compared to the 504 insolvency proceedings registered in the first three months of 2023.
The insolvency proceedings of companies registered in the first quarter of this year mainly covered businesses in the manufacturing, car repair, construction and accommodation and catering sectors.
