"I do not know if the policies are that different. Both I and the ADN defend as a fundamental principle the defense of peace. In fact, it is the only candidacy for these European elections that defends the primacy of peace and that reminds everyone that Europe was built on top of the Second World War, against the barbarism that was the 20th century, and it is on this primacy that we must continue to deepen the European project", she said, in statements to journalists, after submitting the list of the party that she heads to the suffrage of June 9th.
The psychologist and commentator also stressed that democracy is also a pillar of the group, since, "of the seven European institutions, only one is elected".
"We cannot continue to be governed by supranational institutions that no one chose. Both I and the ADN advocate for this", she pointed out.
The official also said that she defends "a project where the distribution of wealth is more diverse than it is today", since "we cannot continue to have 1 to 2% of the world's population owning 98% of the resources", which generates "perverse inequalities".
"Both I and the ADN, and yes, I am the same, advocate for the freedom of rights and the guarantees of peoples that are deeply threatened by this so-called rampant digital transition, where they want to impose completely unconstitutional things and that border on these same freedoms and guarantees, such as digital identity or the imposition of the end of physical money", she exemplified.
And she went further: "I am the same one who was detained by the authorities for speaking out against lobbying and unbridled monopoly in 2002, the same one who was detained in 2003 when she defended the non-invasion of Iraq and peace at the door of the then Prime Minister Durão Barroso, I am the same one who denounced the audit of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, I am the same one who denounced the money they made from our casino-style pensions to play in the elite bank at BPN, I am the same one who has been at the forefront of the defense of physical money."
Joana Amaral Dias confessed that she "would like to be elected" as "this voice that the Portuguese have known for over 20 years with exactly the same principles and the same values".
"I would like to be this voice in Europe to defend the rights of all Portuguese people, but also of all Europeans, who are clearly threatened and in a social and economic setback that is extremely poisonous and dangerous", she said.
It should be recalled that the ADN, formerly known as the Democratic Republican Party (PDR), multiplied its 2022 result by ten, having collected more than 100 thousand votes in the legislative elections of March 10th.
Many voters reported having confused the symbols of the Democratic Alliance (AD) and the ADN, which led both parties to file complaints with the National Elections Commission (CNE) due to the similarity of the names on the ballots.
It should also be noted that Joana Amaral Dias was a deputy for the Left Bloc between 2002 and 2005, a party from which she left after being criticized for having supported Mário Soares in the presidential elections. She left the group in 2014, the year in which she participated in the meeting of the Juntos Podemos movement, where the possibility of the movement joining the Livre party was admitted. That year, she joined the political group Agir, which ran in the 2015 legislative elections in coalition with the PTP and MAS. Two years later, she ran for the Lisbon City Council for Nós, Cidadãos!.
More recently, Fernando Loureiro, founder of the United Party of Retirees and Pensioners (PURP), now (A)TUA, accused her of "betrayal", after her candidacy for the ADN in the European elections was announced. He alleges that the party underwent a transformation, with the promise that the psychologist and former deputy would represent the political force in the June elections, which did not materialize.
