An official source from the PS parliamentary group told Lusa that this hearing in the Budget, Finance and Public Administration Committee will be requested as a matter of urgency.

According to the same source, the socialists' goal is for Miranda Sarmento to "explain once and for all the statements he has been making about budget execution".

"These statements are undermining the country's external credibility, which was so hard to recover, and this is unacceptable", says the same official source.

Today, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento accounted for a total of 2.5 billion euros in expenses carried out by the previous government at the beginning of the year, which were not included in the State Budget for 2024 (OE2024).

Speaking at the annual conference of the Specialized Credit Associations (ASFAC), Joaquim Miranda Sarmento criticized the previous government (PS) for expenses approved at the beginning of the year, some of which were after the legislative elections of March 10, which resulted in the victory of the AD coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM).

"We are talking about 2.5 billion euros that were not in the document that the Assembly of the Republic approved in the State Budget", he said.

The minister said that the previous government approved extraordinary expenses in the amount of 1.080 billion euros, 960 million euros of which were after the legislative elections of March 10.

Miranda Sarmento once again argued that the budgetary situation that the current government found is "different from what had been announced".
