Parliament will elect representatives for the Council of State on May 17
The Assembly of the Republic will elect on May 17 the five parliamentary representatives for the Council of State, a political advisory body to the President of the Republic.

The date was set today at the leaders' conference and on the same day other elections will be held for external bodies: National Defense Superior Council, Information Superior Council, Internal Security Superior Council and Cybersecurity Superior Council.
According to the spokesperson for the leaders' conference, the social democrat Jorge Paulo Oliveira, on June 14, the remaining bodies for which the parliament must indicate representatives will be elected.
Under the Constitution, the Council of State includes "five citizens elected by the Assembly of the Republic, in accordance with the principle of proportional representation, for the period corresponding to the duration of the legislature".
In the previous legislature, the five representatives proposed by PS and PSD were elected in a joint list - Manuel Alegre, Carlos César, Sampaio da Nóvoa, Francisco Pinto Balsemão and Miguel Cadilhe -- and Chega presented a joint list, which failed to elect anyone.
Taking into account the current parliamentary representation, it is expected that PSD, PS and Chega will elect State Councilors.
The leaders' conference also scheduled the first sectoral debate for May 17, with the Minister of Youth and Modernization, Margarida Balseiro Lopes.
The following week, the last before the campaign for the European elections, the plenary sessions will be occupied by potestativos (rights of the parties to set the agenda) of BE, on the 22nd, of PSD, on the 23rd, and of PS, on the 24th.
