The intention of moving forward with this request was put forward by the leader of the CDS-PP parliamentary group, Paulo Núncio, during the hearing of the former Minister of Finance and current PS deputy Fernando Medina, today in the Budget, Finance and Public Administration Committee (COFAP) on the reduction of public debt in 2023.
The objective is, as Paulo Núncio pointed out, to understand whether there was pressure from the Government and whether there were any agreements made, namely for capital increases in 2024, to compensate for the funds released in 2023.
At issue are dividends totaling 130 million euros from Águas de Portugal, Casa da Moeda and NAV, with the deputies questioning Medina about the rationale for the delivery of these dividends and their impact on the reduction of public debt in 2023.
During the hearing, Fernando Medina stated that there was no pressure whatsoever, and also denied that there was any promise of a capital increase for Águas de Portugal from the previous Government and that the decision not to approve a capital increase was "correct".
