In statements to Lusa, Miguel Ângelo, coordinator of the Northern Region Union of Manufacturing, Energy and Environmental Activities Workers (Site-Norte), said that the strike was a "success", pointing to an adherence of around 60%, in terms of factory personnel ("factory floor").

When contacted by Lusa, an official source from Efacec said, in turn, that "this week's strike had an average participation of around 130 workers in the morning and 40 in the afternoon", emphasising that "the company's activity proceeded normally throughout the week".

The unionist, when confronted with this data, said that the "numbers never coincide" on these occasions.

"We also know that our strength lies in what are the factory workers on the factory floor", he stressed.

Even so, Miguel Ângelo recalled that Efacec is a "company in the industrial sector that, nowadays, has many managers at a support level. It is sometimes difficult to mobilise most of these managers for a strike", he highlighted.

The unionist also recalled that this strike took place for two hours per day and that this could reduce the impact.

Miguel Ângelo emphasised, however, that the workers managed to get the message across with the stoppage. "We want Efacec workers to continue to mark their position" and to show that "they are willing to defend their jobs" and the "maintenance of the company as a benchmark company".

The unionist also said that the workers will now gather their structures and hold plenary meetings to assess "with the workers what the next future actions will be", including with the political power.

The union intends to request a meeting with the Ministry of the Economy and is even considering calling a new strike.

The Efacec workers' strike, of two hours per shift, took place on Monday, Wednesday and ends today.

The prior notice also covers all overtime during the current month.

According to Site-Norte, a union structure linked to CGTP, the workers demand the negotiation of the list of demands, the defence of jobs and the continuity of Efacec as a strategic company.

The State sold the entirety of Efacec (nationalised in 2020) to the German investment fund Mutares.

Within the scope of the sale, the State agreed to inject 160 million euros into the company and Banco de Fomento is financing a further 35 million euros, through the purchase of bonds (convertible into capital).

Efacec, which is headquartered in Matosinhos, has around 2,000 workers.
