Two members of a family who fled without paying their bill at a restaurant in Swansea, Wales, have been arrested. The arrests came after police were called to similar incidents at other restaurants and a shop in Port Talbot, according to UK media.
A 41-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, both from Port Talbot, were arrested and charged with fraud by false representation. They are currently in custody at Swansea Central police station.
Police believe at least seven restaurants have been defrauded out of hundreds of pounds, but the investigation is ongoing.
The offenses came to light last week when newly opened Italian restaurant Bella Ciao publicly shamed the family, accusing them of walking out without paying after their meal.
"To the family who left our restaurant tonight without paying their £329 bill (around €382), shame on you!" the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post.
"The lady tried to pay with a card that was declined twice and said her son was waiting outside with 'another card'. Of course he wasn't, then the son got a phone call saying he had to leave and ran off," it added.
The incident was reported to police, who said the number the group had given for their booking was "false".
