A 76-year-old woman has found her engagement ring more than 50 years after losing it on her family's farm in Neath-Port Talbot, Wales.
Marilyn Birch lost the ring in 1970 while feeding cattle on the family farm, Sky News reports. Despite retracing her steps, she was unable to find it and resigned herself to never seeing it again.
"I kept looking every now and again to see if I could find it anywhere," she told the broadcaster. "Eventually we gave up and thought we'd never see that engagement ring again."
More than five decades later, Keith Phillips, who enjoys searching for lost treasure with a metal detector, visited the farm and discovered the ring among coins and other discarded items.
"He used to show us all the different coins and bits and pieces that he'd found on different parts of the farm," Marilyn said.
"And one night when he was leaving I said to him jokingly, 'Look, Keith, forget all this rubbish you're finding, go and find my engagement ring'."

The challenge was intended as a joke, but around a week later the ring was found. "It was buried about eight inches deep in one of the fields," she said.
Marilyn cleaned the ring with a toothbrush and has worn it ever since. "I was lost for words," she said. "I was very, very emotional and Keith was very emotional too - he was so pleased he'd found it."
