A ‘portal’ linking Dublin, Ireland, to New York City in the United States has been temporarily suspended following “inappropriate behaviour” in the Irish capital on Monday night. Thousands of people visited the screens, which allowed passersby on both sides to interact, and while there were heartwarming moments, including a marriage proposal and an Irish dance performance, a number of people exposed body parts and streamed 9/11 footage and profanities via their mobile phones. One woman was even escorted away by Gardaí after she was seen making suggestive movements towards the screen, Sky News reports. A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said in a statement that “technical solutions” will be implemented within 24 hours to address the issue. “We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days with our partners in New York to ensure that the portals continue to provide a positive experience for our cities and the wider world,” the statement added. The teams are also preparing to roll out the feature to other locations, with software improvements. Read Also: Screen "connects" New York to Dublin.
