A 50-year-old woman set fire to her ex-husband’s clothes after discovering he was having an affair with her best friend – and former sister-in-law.
Rhian Templeton torched a pile of suits, shirts, jumpers and tracksuit bottoms belonging to her ex-husband in the garage of their former marital home. She then sent him a picture of it in an act of “utter stupidity”, a court in Wales heard.
The “act of revenge” happened after Templeton discovered her ex-husband’s new relationship on May 31, 2021, shortly after they had officially separated, Wales Online reports.
The man’s new partner was the woman’s former sister-in-law, who Templeton had known since they were at school and considered to be her best friend.
The blaze – which prosecutor Jenny Yeo said was “deliberate” – caused £900 worth of damage. Templeton, of Elms Road, Raglan, Monmouthshire, denied arson, claiming she was just getting rid of unwanted clothes. She was found guilty following a trial at Swansea Crown Court in April this year.
She has been handed a 12-month community order and must complete 60 hours of unpaid work, as well as a rehabilitation course.
