The Portuguese Navy rescued a 70-year-old British woman on Saturday, who was on board the ship 'Oasis of the Seas' 900 kilometers from the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, due to an emergency medical situation.

In a statement released this Sunday, which Notícias ao Minuto had access to, the Navy explained that the passenger "presented a clinical picture of acute appendicitis" and needed "urgent hospital medical care".

The rescue was carried out by the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Delgada), in coordination with the Maritime Urgent Patient Guidance Center (CODU-MAR).

The disembarkation took place at the port of Horta, on the island of Faial, at 8:00 am this Sunday and the patient was later transferred to a hospital unit on the island of Faial, by an ambulance from the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA).
