Sissoco Embaló spoke at the opening of the first forum "National Dialogue on the Environment", which takes place in Bissau until Thursday, bringing together Guinean and foreign specialists on environmental issues, Guinea-Bissau partners and NGOs and members of local communities.

The meeting, which takes place under the motto: "Together for the environment, building bridges for sustainability", was considered by Embalo as a space that "was needed" for "a better definition" of the environmental sector.

The "National Dialogue on the Environment" in Guinea-Bissau will also analyze the concerns of local communities about the exploitation of natural resources.

"I reiterate my commitment that I have always made that the sustainable exploitation of resources is crucial for the development of the country and our communities, but for what purpose will the next generation of Guineans serve", noted Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

The Guinean president also said that he agrees when environmental specialists affirm that the issue of waste and soil degradation, the loss of biodiversity and climate change "are global challenges that demand local responses and immediate actions".

Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who congratulated the minister of the Environment, Biodiversity and Climate Action, Viriato Cassamá, for the initiative, also urged that the awareness of Guineans about the importance of protecting the environment of resources, especially children, be reinforced, he said.

The Minister considered that Guinea-Bissau "today opened a historic event" with this first edition of the "National Dialogue on the Environment" which, he affirmed, will allow the country to discuss and outline strategies for rational management of resources and also a better way of preserving the Environment.

Viriato Cassamá underlined that, among others, Guinea-Bissau has as environmental challenges climate change, the loss of biodiversity, land degradation and waste management.

One of the results expected by the "National Dialogue on the Environment", highlighted the Minister, will be the collection of subsidies that will allow the integration of the environmental dimension in public policies, programs, plans and national legislation.
