"Thanks to a prior notice issued by Venezuela, through the National Anti-Drug Superintendence (Sunad), which was fundamental to the success of this mission, the French authorities managed to intercept the 'Aleppo' boat, flying the Venezuelan flag, with 2,400 kilos of cocaine, near the island of Martinique", wrote the Venezuelan superintendent Richard López Vargas on social network X.
According to this official, the vessel set sail from the island state of Nueva Esparta, the Venezuelan region closest to Martinique, which is 513 kilometres away, under "the pretext of a fishing trip".
The Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Remigio Ceballos, added that 10 citizens were arrested in this operation, without revealing their nationalities or identities.
This year, the authorities seized 22.5 tons of drugs in Venezuela, in 4,199 actions, which led to the arrest of 5,235 people.
