Speaking to Lusa, Bruno Pereira recalled that Luís Montenegro has pointed out “repeatedly” the need to review the financial situation of police officers “throughout the pre-election, election and post-victory period” and considered it disturbing that this expectation of the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) is seen as an unrealistic scenario.
"The Prime Minister leaves this idea in the air and it was something that disturbed me," said the platform's spokesperson, regretting the association of negotiations with the security forces "to a possible dragging" of other sectors of the public administration: "It doesn't seem reasonable to me. There are priority and strategic areas of the State and this sector in particular assumes a totally irreplaceable role as a duty of sovereignty".
The official, who is also president of the National Union of Police Officers (SNOP), recalled that it was the strategic and priority nature that was the basis of negotiations with other professional classes, such as doctors, and argued that the issue of valuing the security forces "is too particular to be confused with others that are also currently being discussed in other sectors of the public administration".
Questioned about an apparent message from Luís Montenegro to the PSP and GNR unions and associations, when he said that "this is not the time for interviews, for messages through the media", Bruno Pereira expressed the expectation that this was not the Prime Minister's objective, when the next meeting between the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) and the PSP unions and socio-professional associations of the GNR is scheduled for Wednesday.
"I think it would be a vile attack on what is the normal exercise of trade union struggle, it being a fundamental right of the constitution. Moreover: we took great care during yesterday to share our proposal with the media only after we had officially done so with the MAI. And civil society has the right to know, taking into account the impact and the discussion that has been going on around this issue for months," he stressed.
At the inauguration ceremony of the new national director of the PSP, the Prime Minister assured that the Government wants to give "good continuity" to the negotiations with the security forces, but warned against "unrealistic scenarios" and stressed that any change will have repercussions throughout the public administration.
One day after the platform presented its proposal to the Government, which involves an increase of around 600 euros through the alteration of the current service and risk supplement in the security forces, Bruno Pereira argued that it "cannot be [considered] unrealistic" and said he expects the Minister of Internal Administration, Margarida Blasco, to make "a counterproposal that has a minimum of dignity" next Wednesday.
The MAI proposed a new mission supplement for PSP and GNR members of between 365.13 and 625.94 euros.
The proposed supplement is based on the base salaries of the national director of the PSP and the commander-general of the GNR and replaces the current service and risk supplement in the security forces.
With this new mission supplement, officers would have a mission supplement of 12% of the base salary of the national director of the PSP and the commander of the GNR, which is 5,216.23 euros, while the percentage for PSP chiefs and GNR sergeants is 9% and for agents and guards is 7%.
The MAI guarantees that all members of the GNR and PSP "have an increase in remuneration" and that no guard or police officer will have less income, receiving at least 1,050 euros more per year, and for some of them, more than that.
