Paulo Cardoso, a firefighter from Palmela, died this Wednesday, the victim of a "sudden illness".
Several corporations have already paid tribute on social media.
The Alcochete Volunteer Firefighters used Facebook to pay "the most heartfelt condolences to all family members, friends and the Palmela Fire Department, for the death of Firefighter 1st Class Paulo Cardoso, victim of a sudden illness, while taking a physical fitness test".
"Farewell, comrade!", they end.
In turn, the Portuguese Association of Volunteer Firefighters expressed "the most heartfelt condolences to the Palmela Volunteer Firefighters Humanitarian Association, its Directors, Fire Department and Family Members, for the death of Firefighter 1st Class Paulo Cardoso, victim of a sudden illness".
Octávio Machado, president of the Palmela Firefighters Humanitarian Association, to which Paulo Cardoso belonged, also left a message to 'Paulinho' on the same social network.
"Paulinho, we are all poorer with your departure. Your way of being and existing marked all those who had the privilege of knowing you. Your availability, the love you showed for the noble cause of safeguarding people and property made you respected and admired by all", he stressed.
And he ended: "I would say that you were an example among many examples that characterize the Palmela Firefighters. You never turned your face to anything, you always, always said 'present'. Your life was that house and serving others. All words are few to express the gratitude for all your passion in serving. You left a void in all of us that is difficult to fill. Condolences to the family, to the Command and Active Body of the Palmela Firefighters".
According to the Jornal Concelho de Palmela, Paulo Cardoso was going to "take a physical fitness test for the Permanent Intervention Teams (EIP)" in Sobreda, in Almada. He was still transported to the Santa Maria Hospital, in Lisbon, but his death was declared at the hospital unit.
