In a transfer that surprised everyone in the summer of 2022, Casemiro swapped Real Madrid for Manchester United and now reveals that the move was almost off.
Speaking to El Chiringuito de Jugones, the former FC Porto man said that Carlo Ancelotti bid him an emotional farewell, pleading with him not to leave the Spanish capital for the Premier League.
"I had already won everything at Real Madrid. It's not that I didn't want to keep trying, but I wanted something new. They didn't let me leave easily, but I wanted to learn a new language, to play in another league. Manchester United have been great since day one," began the Brazilian midfielder.
"I decided to leave shortly after winning the Champions League. I saw that my time in Madrid was over, I was at a good age to leave, I wanted to keep growing. The decision was not easy, people were very fond of me," he continued, recalling a day when he came close to pulling the plug on his move to Manchester.
"I only hesitated once about leaving Madrid for Manchester United. It was a Friday and everything was done. I had to train and I didn't train, all that was missing was the signature. I went to speak to Ancelotti and he already knew that I was leaving. I went into his office, he turned around and he was crying. Carlo told me that he didn't want me to leave, that he was very fond of me... and that's when I hesitated. In Madrid they wanted me a lot, but I had already given my word to United and that is more important than anything else," he concluded.
