A source linked to the process confirmed to the Lusa agency the end of the cycle of the director, who had replaced Álvaro Braga Júnior in 2020, but was not invited to continue in office by Gérard Lopez, owner of the Jogo Bonito company, the main shareholder of the Porto SAD.
Vítor Murta, 48, ended his duties on Tuesday, but, as a holiday followed at the turn of April to May, it was only today that he began to say goodbye to the Boavista employees, at a time when there are five days to go until the Shareholders' General Meeting, in which the members of the SAD's corporate bodies will be elected for the 2024-2026 term. The holding of this major meeting has been facing several setbacks since December 26, 2023, the initial date of the respective convocation, and the absence of competing lists has caused three consecutive postponements, between February 5 and May 7. This electoral impasse was mitigated until the end of April with the permanence of Vítor Murta, whose request to resign from the leadership of Boavista SAD had already been communicated on February 26 - right after the defeat of the 'axadrezados' in the reception to Sporting de Braga (0-4), for the 23rd round of the I League -, but was only formally presented on March 15. The Shareholders' General Meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, at 6:30 pm, in the auditorium of the Estádio do Bessa, in Porto, also containing in the agenda the deliberation on the exemption of the provision of security of the members of the board of directors and supervisory bodies or the discussion of other matters of interest. In addition to Vítor Murta, Pepe Roibas and Carmelo Fraile, the two Spanish directors appointed by Gérard Lopez, have also already submitted their resignations, with the former Senegalese footballer Fary Faye being the only member of the SAD who has not resigned. Four years ago, the majority control of the company responsible for managing the professional football of the 'panthers' was assumed by the Spanish-Luxembourgish businessman Gérard Lopez, who, in the summer of 2023, had to execute a Public Acquisition Offer (OPA) for 49.22% of the share capital through Jogo Bonito, coming to hold 67.67% of the shares.
Boavista occupies the 14th position in the championship, with 30 points, seven above the direct relegation zone and two above the access to the maintenance play-off, and will receive Gil Vicente, 13th, with 32, on Saturday, at 3:30 pm, at the Estádio do Bessa, in a match of the 32nd and penultimate round, which will be refereed by Fábio Veríssimo, from the Leiria association.
