"This is what I promise, in defense of the values of our home. I have within me, and in my team, the energy, competence, strength, and confidence [necessary] to fulfill the promise and start a new cycle at Boavista," he stressed, in statements quoted by the 'panthers'.

The former striker headed the only list of candidates for the governing bodies of Boavista SAD formalized at the General Meeting of shareholders by Jogo Bonito, a company owned by investor Gérard Lopez and holder of a majority position in the 'black and white' capital.

"It is with great honor and a sense of responsibility that I assume Boavista SAD. I accept this challenge with the humility, commitment, and determination of always, aware of the legacy I carry and the responsibilities linked to a position of this dimension," he said.

In addition to Fary Faye, who played for Boavista in two phases (2003-2008 and 2012-2015) and has held management positions in the 'black and white' structure for nine years, four more directors were elected for the 2024-2026 term, with 99.99% of the votes, at a General Meeting of shareholders that brought together representatives of 92.37% of the share capital.

José Carmelo Fraile will have executive powers, unlike Pepe Roibas, Joaquim Agostinho, and the former Portuguese international footballer and current coach Alfredina Silva.

"I want to express my public gratitude to Gérard Lopez, who trusted me to occupy this position of great importance in the Boavista universe. I promise to give my best, with the mission of starting a path of recovery and growth. We have a long way to go and I assume, without any fear, that I will never lack the courage to make the decisions necessary for the good of Boavista," Fary said.

The former player, 49, had been promoted from sports director to Boavista administrator in May 2023, with exclusive performance in the football area, and was the only member of the previous team led by Vítor Murta who was not resigning.

José Carmelo Fraile and Pepe Roibas had resigned from their positions in disagreement with Fary's predecessor, but are now back on the board of directors at the suggestion of Gerard López, who keeps three members in the leadership of SAD 'axadrezada'.

"I am fully aware of the problems of the present. I will never run away from them, as I also know that I will have a challenge of enormous difficulty ahead of me. These will not be easy times, but I am sure that I will meet the demand," he acknowledged, in a season in which the Bessa team had salaries in arrears in its structure and continues with three dozen impediments to registering new players determined by FIFA.

Vítor Murta, 48, was not invited by Gerard López to serve another term at SAD and ended a cycle that began in 2020, when he replaced Álvaro Braga Júnior, but will continue to lead the club, for which he was elected unopposed for the first time in 2018, succeeding João Loureiro, and was reappointed in 2022.

Boavista is in 14th place in the I League, with 31 points, three above the play-off spot for maintenance, and will visit FC Porto, third place, with 66, on Sunday, at 8:30 pm, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, in the Porto derby of the 33rd and penultimate round.

"I am fully aware of the changes that the Boavista fans expect to see implemented, but, first of all, we have to guarantee the sporting objectives of the football team, counting, as always, on the union and strength of all our fans," defined Fary.
