Desporto Nani

Nani gave an interview on Monday night on the 'Titulares' programme on Sport TV. Without a club since leaving Turkish side Adana Demirspor, the Portuguese international confessed that he would like to return to Portugal and end his career at Sporting.

"Whenever Nani's name is mentioned in connection with Sporting, it's an emotion. I continue to receive many messages from fans to return. It would be a great joy, but nowadays it doesn't just depend on the players, there are a set of circumstances that have to allow these things to happen. It would be nice to end my career at Sporting, I think it would make perfect sense," said the 37-year-old player.

"Sporting is a club that has marked and will always mark my history. It allowed me to become a professional and gave me all the conditions to work, evolve and get to where I got to. We have a great connection. Even after I left Sporting, I feel that my connection with the club has never been broken. Whenever I had the chance to join them again, I didn't miss it. I always came back with more desire and determination. It's a source of pride to know that I have already represented Sporting more times than I expected. When I returned to Sporting, with great joy, it was one of the times I enjoyed football the most. I came back home, I felt happy, scoring and playing well," continued the winger.

Nani also praised Rúben Amorim and Viktor Gyokeres.

"When he arrived at Sporting, the secret to success was his leadership, you can see it in his attitude. I have never witnessed a talk or a training session with him, but you can feel that he has a strong personality and a connection with the players. That comes from good leadership," he stressed, before talking about the Swedish international.

"That's exactly what Sporting needed, a striker who could score goals. The team's football was already excellent since last year. I enjoyed the supported style of play very much, they managed to reach the opponents' area easily, but the detail was missing, the pushing of the ball into the goal. This year was perfect with Gyokeres finishing Sporting's plays, he scored many goals. I think he was the key player in the team because you have to score goals to win games. He was a find. Sporting knew how to find a special player," he said, without forgetting the impact of Paulinho.

"Paulinho was as important as Gyokeres. He scored the most decisive goals of the season. I was not fortunate enough to follow Sporting as I like, but I was able to listen to some of the conversations of the most passionate fans and Paulinho is also to be congratulated, he scored great goals this year. He was criticised for not being able to do what he likes best, scoring goals, and he plays in a position that is sometimes very thankless. But he responded this year, in a year that was so special because Sporting became champions again," he concluded.
