Stroke can strike without much warning, but there are ways to help prevent it. A cardiologist shared some tips with Fox News that can help you avoid having a stroke.
According to Parag Shah, these are geared toward women, but many of them can apply to anyone.

1. Avoid air pollution
“High levels of air pollution may increase your chances of having a stroke, according to a recent study.”
2. Follow the Mediterranean diet
“May reduce your risk of stroke-related health issues.”
3. Take up yoga or tai chi
“May offer additional benefits in reducing your risk of stroke.”
4. Know the less common signs
“Trouble understanding, slurred speech, numbness or weakness. Recognizing these signs is crucial because quick identification and immediate medical attention will increase a stroke patient’s chances of recovery.”
5. Be aware of hidden triggers
“Things like pregnancy, childbirth and hormonal changes such as menopause may increase your chances of having a stroke.”
