Lifestyle Sedentarismo
Children, work, lack of time. The reasons for not exercising the body are many and varied. However, the more time we spend without practicing physical exercise, the less we want to do it. And, in addition to contributing to an alarming increase in obesity, greater sedentarism has other implications for our health.
Therefore, the neurosurgeon Antônio Araújo shared with Sport Life five reasons to get the body moving again.

1- Improves cognitive function
When performing regular physical activities, a hormone called irisin enters our body, which "improves the functioning of neurons and reduces forgetfulness, that is, it is important for dementias such as Alzheimer's," summarizes the doctor.
2- Has effects on mobility
As Antônio Araújo states, the practice of physical exercise triggers the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter often associated with the feeling of well-being and pleasure. "This hormone acts on the central nervous system to facilitate movement, balance and dexterity, in addition to being important for the brain's emotional circuit," he explains.
3- Increases strength and balance
Weight training, walking and running are particularly beneficial for those suffering from multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease. "The habit can contribute to the reduction of fatigue (...), and can improve the strength and balance of patients."

4- Reduces epileptic seizures
According to this neurosurgeon, epileptic patients can obtain significant improvements in seizures by performing physical exercises daily. "The increase in levels of noradrenaline and endorphin act as protectors of the neurological system, helping to reduce epileptic episodes."
5- Produces an anti-inflammatory effect and acts as a natural analgesic
Cases of migraines, depression and anxiety can be alleviated with the practice of physical activity. "The release of endorphin and serotonin is the main bet to help with severe headaches, as hormones act as natural analgesics. Cortisol - the stress hormone - can be reduced through healthy practice, generating an anti-inflammatory effect for the treatment of diseases," he concludes.
